According to the Government of Canada, the super visa allows a parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada to visit their relative in Canada for up to 2 years at a time. The visa allows multiple entries and remains valid for up to 10 years.
To be eligible for the super visa, you must meet three key requirements:
- Be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
- Have a written invitation from your child or grandchild who lives in Canada. The invitation must include a promise of financial support for the duration of your stay and evidence of the inviting person’s Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status.
- Have super visa medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company
What is Super Visa Insurance?
Super visa insurance is the medical insurance you must hold for the duration of your extended stay in Canada. The insurance will guarantee that you and your family members can affordably access emergency medical care if anyone is injured or becomes ill during your visit. This protection is essential because, without medical coverage, health care expenses can quickly become very costly.
Your super visa insurance must satisfy a few important requirements:
- You must obtain the insurance from a super visa insurance agency located in Canada.
- You must obtain the insurance prior to entering Canada.
- You must prove the insurance has been paid for when applying for the super visa.
- The insurance must be valid for at least 1 year from the date of entry.
- The insurance must provide at least $100,000 coverage.
